postcards from italy

ischia became our little home for several days this july. we stayed in a bungalow perched on the rocks surrounded by forest which overlooked the sea. we had giant windowsills to lay on and look up at the night sky from. we would adventure to the broken stone pathway in the black of night which crumbled down the cliff and crashing waves below.
the island was lazy and slow-paced. the sea was cool and had thousands of fish that would swim around you. not many people spoke our language and it felt like we were discovering a whole new world perched on a giant rock in the ocean. we played tennis and floated like starfish in the pool. the nights were cool and sometimes i still close my eyes and wish i was back in that four poster bed with cream draped curtains.
everything was magical and lulling. i felt cocooned in safety and happiness. i would wake up in the middle of the night smiling widely. i’d go and sit on the windowsill and listen to the noises of the sea until i was sung back to sleep. italy, you were beautiful and so kind to us, thank you for 1,000 adventures, memories and stories to share.
